Earth Hour - A Global Effort To Reduce Energy

Earth Hour takes place on Saturday, March 29, 2008, from 8 to 9 p.m.

Participants around the world are signing up for the event as part of a global effort to raise awareness on the earth's climate change, the impact of energy usage on the earth, and the power the masses have to reduce it.

Earth hour began last year in Sydney, Australia when over 2 million households and businesses powered down by turning off their lights to raise awareness on global warming.

Sydney successfully had a 10.2% drop in energy usage, which is equivalent to the savings of 24.86 tonnes of carbon dioxide. Sydney's results made such a huge impact, that this year cities from around the world have decided to participate in the 60 minute event.

Schools, restaurants, retailers, and individuals can participate by organizing their own business or community Earth Hour event, or by simply turning off the lights for one hour at the scheduled time.
