My Interview With Santa Claus

It wasn't easy to track down Santa. I had to call the North Pole dozens of times before I could finally get an elf who would let me speak to Santa. But all of my efforts finally paid off when Santa Claus himself finally agreed to an interview!

What is it like to be Santa Claus, is it fun?

Well Christy, of course being Santa is fun. Naturally there are times where we have lots of drama like when Rudolph was kidnapped or on Christmas Eve when we are all running around crazily trying to get those last few toys ready and on the sleigh as well as getting the elves to behave themselves long enough to get the job done.

To me, if it’s not fun it’s not worth doing. I don’t just go Ho! Ho! Ho! All day for no reason.

Why did you decide to become a blogger?

It was Mrs. Claus’ idea actually. I think she had had enough of me hanging around her kitchen sampling her cookies all the time. I guess I could fool her for so long making out that I was actually taste testing for quality control Ho! Ho! Ho!

She says I had too much time on my hands so here I am. I actually have plenty to do apart from this. What with supervising the elves and making sure everything is ready for Christmas Eve.

But I have to admit ever since I arrived in Blogging World just on 2 months ago I can’t help myself. I’m having so much fun and it’s great to talk directly with people that I have watched grow for all of their lives and never got to really meet.

Being on here is life sneaking down the chimney still so people know I have been here without seeing me but with this I can at least leave a note Ho! Ho! Ho!

Mind you, I don’t get the milk and cookies here but Mrs. Claus says that’s a good thing because I’m big enough. Who knows.. Maybe I’ll even fit on the seat in the sleigh this year seeing my cookie eating has been cut.

Does Mrs. Claus or the elves help you with your blogs?

Well I suppose you would have to define help. Mrs. Claus likes to help. She likes it so much that she usually stands behind me looking over my shoulder asking me, “Have you said this, have you said that” Ho! Ho! Ho!

I sometimes send one of my research elves off to find out some information I might need and of course when we get around to doing a post about Mrs. Claus kitchen of course there will be a lot of research needed there.

That might take quite a while to get that one written. It’s not right to talk about things I haven’t tried myself and those new chocolate and blueberry cookies certainly look good. I might get started on that right now. Ho! Ho! Ho!

Do you use modern technology to help make the toys or do the elves still make the toys by hand?

Actually Christy I’ve already written an article about this. Santa’s Workshop is an incredibly amazing place. From the outside it doesn’t look like much but when you come inside it’s hard to work out how everything fits inside so nicely.

The elves are such a busy lot. We have elves for anything you can think of. There are worker elves, and magic elves and pack and wrap elves etc etc etc. It’s all very organized!!

Some special toys are still hand made and some that are very special wishes we actually have the manufacturers make for us. Like the new red Ferrari that Bob in Seattle wanted.

We just got that in already made (who can duplicate that?) and then the pack and wrap elves got busy. They were particularly creative with that one. I especially loved the big gold bow in top. Wonderful!! Ho! Ho! Ho!

Of course we also have some machines that make the toys that we make a lot of. They are very handy for making some dolls and toy cars. No point in getting the elves to make the same thing over and over.

Besides it’s hard enough to get them to concentrate long enough to make just one of something before they get bored with it and we don’t want that to happen. It takes too long to round them all up and get them back to work Ho! Ho! Ho!

The majority of our toys are made by magic though. As I said, I’ve actually written a post about this very subject but the gist of it is that most of the toys we make are made magically by the magic spell elves. You can read all about it by going to ‘Every day should be Christmas’.

Have you ever had to give anyone coal in their stocking, has anyone ever been that bad?

You know Christy.. I have been asked that many times before and I have to admit that it’s quite a while since anyone actually got any coal.. apart from a toy mining set with fake rocks. Ho! Ho! Ho!

I think that over the years just the threat of the coal actually arriving has been enough to get children to do the right thing so that they deserve a proper gift.

Do you know when kids don’t get what they asked Santa for? That is usually Santa’s way of being nice and not just giving them a lump of coal when they haven’t been as good as they really could have been.

Do you eat cookies all year long or only at Christmas time?

Well that’s like asking does a reindeer grow antlers Ho! Ho! Ho!

I should get you to come and visit Mrs Claus’ kitchen and see how hard it is for you to resist. We have elves lined up all day and night trying to sneak off with the cookies because they are that good.

Besides can anyone tell me anything that could ever be more yummy and delicious than one of Mrs. Claus’ many different cookies? Every day there is a new recipe and every day is filled with the anticipation of what today’s special treat will be.

Of course, who can also resist the many different cookies that the children leave out for me every Christmas Eve. Delicious. Ho! Ho! Ho!

What is your favorite Christmas carol?

My favorite Christmas carol of all time is “White Christmas”. I especially love the original sung by Bing Crosby. I’ve already posted that too on the Santa Community Blog quite a while ago.

I’m not sure if it’s the words or not but I really love listening to it sung by Bing. I remember him every Christmas Eve as a little boy when he was growing up. Used to be teased so badly but that’s another story.

It makes me feel all warm inside listening to his silky golden voice and seeing the song in pictures in my mind with the music. It reminds me a lot of my home here. We always have snow and the sleighs are always swooshing past with the bells tinkling as they go by. I love that!!!

I love being Santa!!

Is it true that you enjoying surfing?

Oh Yes!! What fun.

Actually that’s something else I recently wrote about too. One day Mrs. Claus thought I was just sitting around doing nothing so I decided to go to the beach for the day. It was such fun and I took a few of the elves with me as a reward for all their hard work.

I have a work incentive program that I love. It’s always such a pleasure to see the happy little elf faces when they know they are being rewarded for their wonderful work.

Do you have a favorite Christmas movie?

You mean apart from Santa Claus conquers the Martians? Ho! Ho! Ho!

My favorite movie is still A Christmas Carol. It is from the book written by Charles Dickens. Who can forget the story about Bob Cratchit and Tiny Tim and Ebenezer Scrooge. What a story. What a message!!

**Well Christy it’s been wonderful talking to you. A real pleasure that I will never forget and always cherish.

Before I go I would like to say just one last thing:

As you get older, Santa might not bring you toys anymore, but he does bring something far better than any present. Christmas isn’t really about the gifts that you give or even receive, it is the magic that fills our hearts at this time every year.

Christmas is about remembering who you are and what is really special and important to you. It is about realizing that no matter who or where you are that there will always be someone who loves you.

Everyone deserves that and loving someone is free. If you have nothing else to give or even to receive, it is the one thing that you can do and have. No matter what!

Thank you so much Santa Claus for the wonderful Interview!! You can go and say hi to Santa at the following Christmas blogs:
