Freaky Friday - A Ghostly Encounter Turned Me Into A Ghostbuster

This is my first Freaky Friday post and I'm going to start off by telling my own personal ghost encounter! It all started when I moved into this house (yes the house I'm in now).

I noticed it would creak a lot, sometimes it would even sound as if someone was walking up and down the stairs. But there was no one there. My husband told me that it was normal for houses to creak and it was just the noise houses normally made...I believed him....until....

One night we were sitting in the living room which is near the stairwell leading upstairs. We suddenly heard what sounded like someone running up the stairs, creaking steps and all. The running footsteps were suddenly above us (my son's room) and then there was a huge thud. It was if someone had jumped off the bed onto the floor.

Well, we both freaked out, but we weren't thinking ghosts. We thought someone had broken in. My husband grabbed a baseball bat and headed upstairs. I grabbed the phone ready to dial 911 and checked the doors and windows to see if someone could have gotten in. Everything was locked up tight and after searching the house my husband found nothing.

That's when I realized we were in trouble! At night the creaking house noises became terrifying. Even during the day I was scared to be in my own house. I would be doing the dishes and hear someone calling out my name...but nobody was home!

Nobody in the house ever wanted to go into the basement, we all got the creepiest feeling from downstairs, we avoided the second family room and doing laundry was a quick in and out marathon.

Then one night I awoke to see an old lady with her gray hair up in a bun, just standing there in the bedroom. I rubbed my eyes, told myself that I must be dreaming, and went back to sleep.

One day soon after, my teenage babysitter from across the road was over. I asked her to come with me downstairs with me for a second while I grabbed something.

"Oh, I'm not going down there," she said, there's a ghost down there!"

"What are you talking about?" I asked her.

Then she explained that she had been friends with boy who used to live in the house before us. They were the same age and very close. He was terrified of the basement because he'd seen this old lady with gray hair walking down there, and it turns out that the family had heard the same sounds of running up and down the stairs as we did.

Then I knew we were in super big trouble! I phoned my friend crying, and he advised me on how to get rid of a ghost! I was willing to try anything at this point so I took his advice.

I lit a white candle and prayed, and asked God for help. I then followed my friends simple instructions (and prayed some more). I was absolutely terrified!

Since then I've never heard a footstep, a thud, or any other noise in the house. Everyone suddenly stopped being frightened of the basement and the rooms down there became just another part of the house.

And all of those noises that my husband assured me were the natural creaks of a home. Well I haven't heard a single creak since.

Do I think that the house was haunted? Most definitely, how else could you explain the events? If I would have realized sooner I would have headed for the hills at the first creak! I'm just glad my friend taught me how to be a real life ghost buster!
